Men in skirts has always been a slightly contentious issue, is it drag for a man to wear a skirt? The kilt is the ultimate masculine symbol in Scotland. So what are the rules?
Lizzy Davies of the Guardian points out the case of Dominique Moreau, who she names as a "trailblazing freedom fighter", from the town of Poitiers, who is the president of Hommes en Jupe (Men in Skirts).
"Today, millions of men around the world wear skirts, like the sarong in Asia or the djellaba in Africa, without being bothered," he points out.
Women have been able to wear the trousers for decades now, so why can't men wear the skirt?
It would seem there are a number of reasons and it all comes down to masculinity, or rather feminisation; its just not something the modern world is comfortable with.
Tim Stannard, speaking to Ms Davies said: "My little world is not ready for a man in a skirt, whatever style it is."
Unfortunately that may be the case, no matter how many times David Beckham wears a sarong, as yet, the world is not ready for the skirt wearing man.
